I quickly followed as my mom pulled me along. Her hand was tightly wrapped around mine and it felt warm and sweaty. It was tough to keep up with her and sometimes it felt my arm would rip out of its socket. I didn’t understand why she was in such a hurry. I wanted to stand and watch the scenery. There were so many huge buildings. Two stood apart from the rest and looked identical. They were so tall that it felt like my neck would snap off if I looked any higher. “Come on Violet, hurry up please,” my mom said. “I’m going as fast as I can mommy, please slow down you’re hurting my arm!” I said. She gave me a look of sorry and slowed down, but she was still moving too fast for me. She was dragging me through more people than I had ever seen. She pulled me over cracked sidewalks and pothole filled streets. We were moving so quickly that I could hardly see what I was traveling past. I could smell more than I could see. The smell of bread was currently in the air. It made me so hungry. Then the smell was replaced by pizza. As we moved along I could smell even more foods though I’m not sure what kinds, and I could feel my stomach growling. I wanted to follow those scents as I’ve seen in cartoons and eat to pieces what is making the smell. Suddenly the smell of pee hit me in the face. It reminded me of when I accidentally didn’t pull my pants down far enough and peed on myself. It smelled so bad and I needed to shower and put on new clothes. I don’t think this was me though. I didn’t feel wet anyway. The smell seemed to be coming from everywhere. I looked around to see if anyone had wet spots but everyone seemed okay. “Mom who peed?” I asked. “Ignore it please, we’ll be past it soon,” she replied. But we weren’t and it seemed to get worse. I wanted to be smelling the bread and pizza again. Then we passed some people sitting on the side of the street. They looked scary and were covered in dirt. I wondered if they had peed on themselves and needed to take a shower. I wondered if mom would let them use ours. I tried to move towards a man to ask him but my mom sharply pulled me away. “What are you doing?” she asked sharply. “I think he peed himself, he needs a shower,” I replied. “Stay away from him! He can find his own shower, please just stay with me,” she said. She sounded tired and I didn’t want to upset her anymore so I kept close to her and stared at the people from behind her shirt. We reached the bus station and went inside. It didn’t smell like pee anymore and I was happy.
